2024 Race Report
KILLEARN 10k RACE REPORT, 2024
Over 180 runners participated in the Killearn 10k on Saturday, and the organizers were thrilled with the event, thanks to the fantastic runners and supporters on the day. Before the 10k, a sold-out field of over 200 ran the Killearn Mile, with some serious performances from some very little legs! We love this event and it’s great to see so many families encouraging their youngsters to enjoy running.
Entries for the 10k, supported by main sponsor TLA Subsea, sold out in record time back in December. It’s a popular race for a reason, with the best route, usually great weather, and a fabulous community day for both locals and visitors to the village.
The elite runners set off at a fast pace, with the leader reaching the turning point in record time. Gregor Yates (Inverclyde Athletics Club) led the race, winning with a course record of 32:45, five minutes ahead of the competition. Jamie Auldsmith (Portobello Running Club) finished second in 37:44, and Matt Williamson came in third at 39:06.
In the Women’s race, Rhona Fraser finished first (42:50), followed by Deborah Gray (44:54) and Hannah McAuley (45:04). There were impressive performances in all of the age categories. Prizes were awarded to U20, V50, V65, G63, and Killearn FC best performance winners.
U20 winners were Cameron Holt (48:54) and Orla Stewart (57:16), both first-timers to 10k racing. Neil Gallagher won the MV50 category (45:12), and Claire Wharton (Bellahouston Road Runners) won the FV50 category (46:22). The V65 award went to Brian Andrews (54:17). G63 prizes went to Gregor Yates and Hannah McAuley, and the KFC prize went to Stuart MacDonald in a super fast time of 43:43.
Other notable results include Colin Hughes (Bellahouston Road Runners), the fastest in the MV60 category (44:13), and Shirley Wieland in the FV60 category (53:05).
Some strong performances from the prize and category winners, congratulations to them all. The Killearn 10k celebrates all participants, regardless of time and we’d love to welcome new runners to our event in future years.
We have many people to thank for this year’s success, and we’ll publish a separate post for acknowledgments. In the meantime, special thanks to our runners, marshals, volunteers, and sponsors: TLA Subsea, West Homes, The Old Mill, Heron House, Home is Best, Town and Country Designs, and Killearn Pharmacy. It was great to see so many sponsors participating in the event.
After the race, organisers said, “Thanks to all our helpers, everything went smoothly. This event unites the community through sport and hopefully inspires many more to join in the future. Watching local families in the Mile before the 10k is a joy. Here’s to the 2025 event!
