2026 Race Instructions

Thank you for entering the 2026 Killearn 10k!
Saturday 6 June – 11am start

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Killearn and to another great day on the trails and roads around the village. Please take a few minutes to read the information below before race day.

Race numbers and timing chips

There is no on-the-day registration.

All runners have been posted their race number to the address used at registration. Your timing chip is embedded in the bib number, so please remember to bring it with you on race day.

If your number hasn’t arrived by 29th May, please contact us at info@killearn10k.com.

We’ll have a limited number of spare bibs available on the day if needed.

Race numbers are strictly non-transferable. Please don’t pass your number to another runner or swap numbers, as we need accurate runner information for timing, safety and insurance purposes. Any runner using another person’s number may be disqualified.

Please complete the medical information on the reverse of your race number before arriving at the event. Hopefully it won’t be needed, but it is important information for our medical team in the event of an emergency.

T-shirts / vests

Your race t-shirt or vest has been posted along with your race number.

Water

To help reduce plastic waste, we won’t be providing bottled water.

Please bring your own water bottle. Water will be available at the start/finish area for refills, (we have some plastic cups but it’s helpful if you have your own bottle too). There will be a water station on the course. If the weather is warm, you may prefer to carry water during the race.

Parking

Parking in Killearn is limited, so please car share where possible and allow enough time to park and make your way to the start for the 10:45am race briefing.

Please avoid parking on the race route itself (Main Street) and be considerate of residents by keeping driveways and access routes clear.

The village beer festival will also be setting up during the morning, so keeping traffic moving is appreciated – nobody wants delayed beer deliveries:-)

Toilets

Public toilets are available at the Health Centre car park on Balfron Road, and the sports pavilion toilets in the park will also be open.

Some renovation work is still ongoing at the pavilion, but the facilities are fully operational.

Bag drop

There is no official bag drop facility.

There will be a designated area where runners can leave belongings at their own risk. Please note this area is outdoors and items are left entirely at the owner’s responsibility.

Route and start arrangements

The route is unchanged from 2025 and starts in Killearn Park.

To help the field move smoothly through the park and onto the course, runners are asked to start in a  position appropriate to your expected finish time.

Remember, your race time only starts when you cross the timing mat, so there’s no disadvantage to starting slightly further back.

The race leaves the park via the Old Kirk and The Square before heading out of the village onto the Pipe Track towards Strathblane. After the turnaround near Dumgoyne, runners retrace the route before returning via Ibert Road and back into the village to finish in the park.

Please note: on the return through the village, runners turn into The Square before the Buchanan Monument and do not retrace the exact start route.

A GPX file of the route will be available on the Killearn 10k website: Killearn 10k – Annual trail run in Killearn, Stirlingshire

Race etiquette and course safety

Please:

  • Keep LEFT when running on roads
  • Keep RIGHT on the Pipe Track to help reduce congestion
  • Use pavements where possible on Main Street during the final section of the race

The water station is located at approximately 4km on the outward section. To help avoid congestion, we encourage runners to take water on the return leg if possible.

Please remember that roads are not fully closed during the race. Traffic is stopped briefly at the start, but runners returning through the village will encounter open roads. Marshals are there to help, please follow their instructions carefully, particularly when crossing Main Street at the bottom of Ibert Road.

The Killearn 10k is primarily a trail race and surfaces can be uneven and slippery in places, especially on the farm track climb and sections of the Pipe Track between roughly 1.5–2km.

As you head for the finish line, make sure your race number is visible… and your smile is too – there will be photographers on the day!

The Pipe Track closes at 12:30pm. Any runner who has not reached the 8km point by then may be asked to leave the course and transport back to the finish area will be provided. The sweep runners will always stay with the last runner so you will never be on your own.

Please also help us keep the route beautiful by taking any litter, including gel wrappers, home with you. Runners identified dropping litter may be disqualified.

Looking after yourself and others

Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. The route is exposed and, being Scotland, conditions can change quickly – sunshine, rain and strong wind are all possible in the same morning.

If sunny weather is forecast, we recommend sun protection. Midges, however, are almost guaranteed.

Trail shoes or suitable footwear are recommended given the mixed terrain.

If you feel unwell during the race, speak to a marshal immediately. If you cannot continue, please make sure a marshal or sweeper knows. It’s important that we account for all runners safely.

Equally, if another runner appears to need assistance, please stop and help if you can.

Headphones are not prohibited, but we strongly recommend runners remain aware of their surroundings. Headphones must be removed at all road crossings and whenever running on roads.

Please follow all marshal instructions at all times.

Dogs are not permitted on the race route due to the narrow trails, working farmland and livestock in surrounding areas.

Marshals

Route marshals and field marshals will be wearing yellow high-visibility vests.

Committee members and key volunteers in the park area will wear blue high-visibility vests and will be happy to help with any questions on the day.

Prize giving

Prize giving will take place in Killearn Park at approximately 12:30pm (weather permitting). Trophies and prizes will be awarded across a range of categories.

Results and photographs

Results will be published on the Killearn 10k website in the days following the event, along with links to race photographs.

Other things happening on the day
